GETTING THE HOME READY:

All Guns Should Be Stored in Gun Safes
Your firearm storage plans in your home need to revolve around gun safes. When a firearm is properly stored in a gun safe it is secure against various dangers including burglars and little children. Quality gun safes also protect the contents from flood and fire. Some gun owners will try to justify keeping a firearm outside of a gun safe with the excuse that gun safes slow down the access to the firearm in a home emergency. That does not need to be the case. Many gun safes can be opened quickly and stored in places where one would feel they need emergency access to the firearm.

A Word About Trigger Locks and Cable Locks
Trigger locks are devices that lock onto the firearm on and surrounding the trigger and often the trigger guard. A trigger lock will prevent any user from being able to engage and pull the trigger. Cable locks have a cable that goes through the firearms barrel and firing chamber thus preventing the firearm from being able to
load and fire a round. Many firearm manufacturers will even include one of these types of locks with the firearm as an added value accessory.
While these devices do prevent the firearm from being used they are not an adequate method of securing or making safe your firearm in the home. They do not prevent an intruder from stealing your firearm. They do not protect the firearm from fire, flood, or other similar dangers. They are generally operated with a key and thus prevent the owner from being able to access and ready the firearm quickly for use in a home emergency.
There is no need to combine these devices with the gun safe since the gun safe by itself represents a strong level of security.
